but: digitization doesn't change that much for libraries, @Aslaks says: users still not use much of what is available, they mostly even don't know about it. the function of the library is not the catalogue or the knowledge it organizes, but: enlightenment! #IATUL18Norway

— viola voß (@v_i_o_l_a) June 19, 2018

.@Aslaks ends his talk with a warning: the biggest danger is — the catalogue. libraries think "we are the catalogue", but they are not! the catalogue is a tool, nothing more; it can be replaced by google or other tools. so: libraries need to move to the content! #IATUL18Norway

session 4C, "user centered library and service design", starts with a talk by benjamin stahl from TUAS wildau about "roboter ante portas? about the deployment of an humanoid robot in a library" — and the wildau robot, called wilma, sent a video greeting! 🙂 #IATUL18Norway pic.twitter.com/ZflKlw52VC

wilma is a pepper robot (https://t.co/VmdLKAYDe5) that has been trained for library services in the RoboticLab at the telematics department of TH wildau: https://t.co/Rk5I2GVFvj (many pepper videos on that page!) #IATUL18Norway

There will be a paper on each presentation published after the conference in the IATUL conference proceedings. We will inform you via twitter of course as soon as they are online. Past years confrences available here: https://t.co/uhRBOJYHZM

wilma can help with FAQs, printer assistance, library guidance, architecture guidance, jokes, the weather forecast, and information about public transport. 🙂 #robot #library #pepper #IATUL18norway pic.twitter.com/KyOPZgbHCA

answers to questions from the audience: wilma has a camera on her front, but the pictures are not filmed/saved, but only used for detection. wilma does not "kill library jobs", but is only assisting for questions like "where are the toilets?" #robots #library #IATUL18Norway

not every university has a Robotics lab, and not all libraries can afford staff to program a robot. but benjamin is optimistic that in some years it will be possible to deliver a "library ready" pepper version. #robot #library #IATUL18Norway

hm, as far as I can see there is not wesite for the Centre for Academic Language and Practice (CALP) at @hioaLSB, but these are the colleagues you can contact if you have questions about it: https://t.co/7hW8P2MUZo (among them kari mari who is giving the talk) #iatul18norway

— viola voß (@v_i_o_l_a) June 19, 2018

#CALP at @hioaLSB / @OsloMet is active in many areas: linguistics, intercultural communication, literary science, english for academic purposes, language learning, and more. #IATUL18norway pic.twitter.com/G5QUypluMq

— viola voß (@v_i_o_l_a) June 19, 2018

but why does #CALP belong into the library? because of the target groups (students and staff) that need support in their academic work via different services — and as academic and information literacy are closely related, it's good to have it at the library. #IATUL18norway pic.twitter.com/kjFCAOaTpy

— viola voß (@v_i_o_l_a) June 19, 2018

and as @larsegeland adds: whenever there is a service needed that doesn't have a "natural home" at a faculty — could it be cared for at the library? and an argument by another colleague: it should be on "neutral grounds". #IATUL18norway
